Some years ago everyone had a bottle of syrup of ipicac in the medicine chest to induce vomiting when you injested poison. Now the rule of thumb is not to automatically induce vomitting, but to wait for instructions from a rescue worker on the phone. The reason being is that depending on the TYPE of poison injested, vomiting it up can actually cause MORE damage. That's when they will tell you to eat dry bread and drink milk to absorb the poison before you get to a medical facility. Post the number to the nearest Poison Control Center by your phone NOW, before you forget!!! The life you save could be YOUR OWN or your CHILDS.
