What are some uses for hydrogen peroxide?

In it's pure form you can burn yourself pretty nicely. If you are careful with it then it's great for sterilizing. If you are talking about the 3% form that is sold as an antiseptic then it is great at cleaning. Baking soda and peroxide is the best mixture for toothpaste (this mixture is also useful at getting rid of skunk odor). After you are done brushing, you can soak the brush in more H2O2 to prevent bacteria buildup (you would be surprised how much bacteria can be found on an average toothbrush). It's supposed to be good for toothaches too. It deodorizes and disinfects. It kills many types of fungus (many claim it gets rid of their foot fungus). Supposedly a little bit in the bath will help with some skin infections, as well as odors. I personally have very small ears so I cannot clean them with a q-tip. I flush my ears with dilute hydrogen peroxide and it cleans them right out (I got that tip from my primary physician). Of course, you can use it to change your hair color. It can whiten other things like bones and skin (it is commonly used to bleach display bones). It can remove certain stains (especially blood stains) from clothes. Biologist often use it to release oxygen (in fish tanks, in soil for plants, etc.). It's generally an oxidizer....I can go on and on so email me if you want more.

Is vodka safe to use on cuts and scrapes as a disinfectant when hydrogen peroxide is not available?

Vodka should make a good disinfectant, and the higher the proof the better. This is similar to using rubbing alcohol to disinfect wounds. Be aware, however, that alcohol dries out the skin more than peroxide and can irritate wounds. Also, use plain vodka - save the flavored ones for drinking.

What replace mecuricome?

Mercurochrome, once a popular antiseptic for minor cuts and scrapes, has largely been replaced by other antiseptics due to concerns over mercury content. Common alternatives include povidone-iodine (Betadine), hydrogen peroxide, and saline solution, which provide effective cleaning and infection prevention without the risks associated with mercury. Additionally, alcohol-based antiseptics are frequently used for their rapid action against bacteria. Always consult a healthcare professional for the best option based on individual needs.

How to prevent cuts and scrapes from getting infected?

If someone has just fallen and scraped their knees or cut themselves, what do you do? Here are some ways to treat minor scrapes and cuts and get that person on the road to recovery.Inspect ItThe first thing that needs to be done is to look at the scrape or cut and see if there are any slivers or pebbles that may have stuck inside of it. If so, dip tweezers into rubbing alcohol and pull the slivers or pebbles out from the area. Re-apply the alcohol each time you pull an item out. The rubbing alcohol will help to avoid a bacterial infection from occurring later.Hydrogen Peroxide WashWhen there is nothing stuck in the cut or scrape, the next step is to thoroughly rinse the area with hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is an antimicrobial agent that will help prevent any infections from developing inside of the wound. Hydrogen peroxide can be placed onto a cotton ball or gauze and just dabbed a few times on the area to clean it out and get rid of any excess blood.Examine ItAfter inspecting and washing the area, look at the area again to see if blood is gushing out or slowly streaming out. If blood is gushing out, the wound is definitely not minor, and a trip to the ER or a physician is in order. If it’s a small stream, it is best to take gauze and add some light pressure to the area. The blood should soon stop - it is then best to rewash the area with hydrogen peroxide.NeosporinAdd some Neosporin to the area, since hydrogen peroxide is only an antimicrobial agent and not an antibacterial ointment. Neosporin will give the cut or scrape an antibacterial treatment and prevent it from scarring. Before placing an adhesive strip over the area, allow the cut or scrape to air out with the Neosporin on it.Adhesive StripAdd the adhesive strip very gently. Make sure that it is not on the area too tightly, as air will help heal the wound as well. Be sure to keep an on-hand supply of various sizes of adhesives, since you may have to adjust the size of the adhesive to that of the scrape or cut.

What remedy to use if you cant get the dog to the vet that's been bitten by two other dogs?

It depends on the severity. If they are just puncture holes or small scrapes you can clean the area with soap and water then apply Neosporin or a triple anti-biotic. Anything more then that should be seen by a veterinarian. Check into a ER Vet. Most vets and doctors discourage the use of hydrogen peroxide in puncture wounds. Peroxide in a puncture can trigger a gas embolism, and may also delay the healing process. For more information on how to dress a wound, see the related links below.
