If water droplets stick to the inside of the pipet it will cause the volume of the water to be a lower value then what the pipet is calibrated to therefore the density of the water will be higher. It will affect it, because the mass that you are weighting will be greater than it should be, and this will give you a greater density.

Why is ammonia collected by upward delivery and not over water?

Ammonia is collected by upward delivery because it is lighter than air and will rise through the apparatus. Collecting it over water can be problematic as ammonia can dissolve in water, forming ammonium hydroxide, thus contaminating the collected gas.

Why is carbon dioxide collected by downwards delivery?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is collected by downwards delivery because it is heavier than air. Almost all of our atmosphere is nitrogen (molecular mass = 28) and oxygen (molecular mass = 32), but CO2 has a molecular mass of 40.

Why is chlorine collected through downward delivery method?

Chlorine is collected through the downward delivery method because it is denser than air. By collecting it in a downward direction, any excess chlorine gas is forced out of the container as it is heavier and settles at the bottom, ensuring a more efficient and safe collection process.

Why is acid-base titration a useful technique in chemistry?

Acid-base titration is useful in chemistry because it allows for the precise determination of the concentration of an acid or base in a solution. By measuring the volume of titrant needed to neutralize the analyte, one can calculate the concentration of the unknown solution. This technique is commonly used in quantitative analysis and in determining the purity of chemicals.

Suppose the original sample is unknowingly contaminated with a second anhydrous salt will the reported percent water in the hydrated salt be too high too low or unaffected by its presence?

If the original sample is unknowingly contaminated with a second anhydrous salt, the reported percent water in the hydrated salt will be too low. This is because the presence of the anhydrous salt will increase the overall weight of the sample without contributing to the water content calculation, leading to a lower reported percentage of water in the hydrated salt.
