Electrons have a negative charge. The easy way to remember it is because the names of the other two particle types which make up an atom sound like what they are: Proton is Positive Neutron is Neutral So you're only left with the negative charge, which must be assigned to the electron.

Electrons have a negative charge. The easy way to remember is-

P for protons and P for Positive too.So it contains Positive Charge.

N for Neutron and N for Neutral too.So it is nuetral.

So you have only the negative charge, and now only electron is left so negative charge is assigned to electron.
