coz universal indicator tells you whether its a strong or weak acid or alkali but litmus paper only tells you whether the sunstance is acid (red) or alkali (blue)
Universal indicator can be used to ascertain the pH of a solution, almost exactly (to the nearest integer) across the entire spectrum. Litmus paper, however has only two options. First is your average litmus paper which can only tell you if a solution is acidic or basic and only roughly how much either way. The other type is far more accurate (again, to the nearest integer), but can generally only measure pH accurately over a small range (eg. 1-4 or 10-14 etc). Therefore, when possible, it usually more beneficial, more efficient and more accurate to use than litmus paper.
Universal indicator will give you an indication of HOW acidic or alkaline a solution is, depending on the exact color. Litmus can only turn red or blue and can't distinguish between differing amounts of acid or base.
Because universal indicator contains a combination of indicators that show different colours at different pHs. Litmus just shows alkali or acid.
The Universal Indicator is very specific (in showing lots of colours) and you can easily tell what the pH level is, as opposed to litmus, which only shows red or blue.
Universal indicator clearly distinguishes between a strong and weak acid/base, while litmus indicator doesn't.
they both identify whether a substance is acidic or basic
Because its stronger !!
Use a universal indicator or litmus paper. Litmus paper will turn red in acidic conditions and blue in alkali conditions. Universal indicator can give a more accurate PH reading than litmus paper.
Because universal shows how strong or weak a substance is. Litmus just shows if its Alkaline or Acid. ps a 12 yr old wrote this.
Universal indicator or litmus paper are the most common methods. You can get pH paper...the color of the paper correlates to certain pH's. pH paper is more accurate than litmus paper.
The universal indicator is better than the red cabbage indicator because the universal indicator has a wider range of pH that it can explain why a substance is acidic or basic. The red cabbage indicator only tests the substance if it is an acid or a base. Also, the universal indicators are made carefully and it is manufactured in a precise manner so the results are very reliable. Red cabbage indicators will vary in concentration which could cause errors to occur in determining the pH of a substance.
Red cabbage juice. It measures pH from 2-12.
I suppose that the preparation procedure is more difficult.

this is because it is more specific(Y):)

Litmus only differentiates between acidic and alkaline solutions. It does not give an accurate value of the degree of acidity of alkalinity. Universal Indicator can help measure the pH of the given solution as it does not just change from red to blue and vice versa, but in solution has a range of colours.

It is identified by using a 'Universal Indicator' or 'litmus paper'. If you are using a universal indicator, it will go red, orange or yellow. You should use blue litmus paper when in contact with acid, will change colour to red.
Use of paper avoid the contamination of the sample.
An Universal Indictator is more helpful because it shows the exact amount of acidity. Other indictators (example the red and blue litmus) just indicates whether or not the solution is acidic. The universal indicator gives you a specific color to which you can match a pH number therefore, telling you how acidic the soultion is.
