To make a stronger metal than the pure elemental metal. To make corrosion resistant metal. To make specialty metals, such as wood's metal used for its low melting point in sprinkler systems, or Babbitt used as a bearing in some machinery.

The main purpose of manufacturing alloys is to tailor a property of a pure metal to have a better usage. As an example, iron is a metal which easily 'rusts', which is same as oxidation. When it is mixed with carbon and some other metals it gives steel, which has a higher resistance for oxidation and it is used in a vast variety of industries.
