As you may know that the heat which comes to earth never goes back to space & it is trapped in our earth's atmosphere & this only leads to global warming . It's harmful effects are - the water level of oceans increases as glaciers & snow of polar region melt fast due to very hot enviornment . Animal and plants dies due to heat and flood chance increases .

An average global temperature rise is 0.2°C to 0.3°C every decade. Meaning over the next hundred years there could be large consequences, because some areas in the world will get much higher average increase than others. The temperature on earth's surface is heated by the process called the greenhouse effect. Growth in industry and transportation have used and burned more products, such as fossil fuels or trees, resulting in them making more greenhouse gases and putting them into the atmosphere. This results in more heat in the colder places. So all the ice melts in the colder places and then the places that are hot the sea level rises and that result in more floods.

The Kyoto Protocol is the treaty that was signed by many countries to help prevent more greenhouse gases. The less greenhouse gases there are in the atmosphere the less dangerous the greenhouse effect is. The countries signed this treaty to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are put in the atmosphere because if there are to many they will cause global warming. The treaty was open for signature on March 16, 1998. The United States signed this on November 12, 1998. Their target was to reduce their amount of greenhouse gases put in the atmosphere by 7%. In all the Kyoto Protocol was a great idea and if it works out like it is supposed to we can prevent all the consequences of having too much greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.

The greenhouse effect is a natural effect in the atmosphere, supported by the earth's carbon and water cycles, where greenhouse gases capture heat from the sun so keeping the earth warm. This has been happening for thousands of years and it is a great advantage for life on our planet, for without it we would freeze.

The enhanced greenhouse effect is a man-made effect in the atmosphere, where billions of tons of carbon dioxide have been added to the natural greenhouse gases by deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels for industry, transport and to generate electricity. The carbon cycle can not remove the extra carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so the increased greenhouse gases capture more and more heat, causing global warming.

The disadvantage of the enhanced greenhouse effect then is global warming.

Background:

The contention of the larger number of climatologists is that human activities since the industrial revolution have increased the content of CO2, methane and other gases in the atmosphere that trap solar heat. At the same time human activities have reduced the forest cover that had traditionally absorbed these same materials. They state that an increasing level of these atmospheric constituents has lead to a chain of chemical and physical changes that have increased the world's average temperature.

Observations of atmospheric gas composition, average sea water temperatures, atmospheric temperatures etc. confirm the trends and support the proposition.

Potential Impacts:

1. The sea levels may rise. Technically this may be caused by melting ice from the polar ice caps or an increase in sea height as the less dense water is less compressed. Low lying land like many Pacific Islands and Miami will be under water.

2. Serious climate changes may result from diverted ocean currents. As an example, the Gulf Stream keeps Europe warm. If the Stream is not running Europe may be much cooler and drier. Crops may not grow.

3. Ecology changes on the land could include species of animals and plants extending their range to the polar regions. Local flora and fauna may become extinct. A good example is the spread of Africanized bees and Fire Ants. Sea life may also be impacted both through the introduction of competitive species presently kept in other areas by water temperature changes, and by failure to adapt to less saline water.

4. Human society may be disrupted if changes in rainfall and temperature cause crop failure. Famine refugees may require significant humanitarian attention by the "lucky" nations.

Conflicting opinions?

Yes indeed, some people don't agree!

However, the problem breaks down into two potential scenarios. Either there is a basis for fear about climate change, or, there isn't.

If Climate Change isn't real and we do nothing - good! Except of course many of the problems that science has identified and blamed as causing Climate Change are just plain wastes of resources, and inefficient and uneconomical practices that should be addressed anyway. A polluted, climatically steady world with no fish and no oil will be no fun at all.

If Climate Change is not real and we do all the things that we should - reduce emissions, cut fuel use, re-establish forests - we're out money (maybe) but in general the world is a better and more sustainable place.

If Climate Change is real and we do nothing - we are dead or at least very miserable.

If Climate Change is real and we work to correct all our bad habits we might still be in trouble ... if it's too little and too late, but we'll go down fighting. If we succeed we live.

The natural greenhouse effect keeps the earth warm enough for life. This is good.

The enhanced, or accelerated, greenhouse effect, which is happening now, is when we rapidly add more and more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. (We are doing this by deforestation and burning fossil fuels.)

More greenhouse gas in the atmosphere means that more heat is being trapped. This is causing global warming and climate change.

The negative effects of greenhouse effect is very well known among people as global warming. Global warming is a recent phenomena of the 20th and the 21st century.

The adverse effects of global warming start from temperature rise to melting of polar ice caps and submerging of the islands and coastal areas under water. All that water again heats up and produces condensation, floats to other parts of the world in clouds, and drops down like rain. There is a global climate change from that repeated compounding weather pattern. On land, if pollution and deforestation is not controlled and the greenhouse effect keeps going we could see temperatures rise by another degree in the next hundred years. Then finally, Earth will be a giant aquarium with all landmasses under water.

Of course things could improve or even be prevented. Making freshwater from saltwater for supplying our world's drinking water is helping. Bringing saltwater inland supplies fresh fish, faster than having to pollute our environment by using fishing vessels. And watering our dryland with reclaimed wastewater to produce perfectly edible crops has recently shown promise that could ultimately filter down into the earth to produce fresh underwater reservoirs to be used in the future. Maybe tapping into our own oil reserves, growing our own sustainable environment without electrical, industrial, or chemical factors, or finding other uses for water rather than letting it flood us to extinction, can be researched.

Also, the continuous technological advancement that the world has today have actually contributed a lot to global warming. Some of these turns into pollution rather than actual environmental help.

Greenhouse gas emissions like carbon dioxide (CO2) come from the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity.

Methane is another greenhouse gas causing global warming. It comes from agricultural practices like cattle rearing and rice paddy fields, as well as from melting tundra and frozen lakes.

Both these gases are having a dangerous effect on our atmosphere. They are causing an enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is responsible for global warming.
