When you melt something, for instance an ice cube, you are suppling enough heat energy to break intermolecular bonds between molecules so there are enough free molecules to change state. When you freeze water, you are cooling it down enough so that the molecules stop moving enough for intermolecular forces to have an effect, essentially holding the molecules in a structure that, to the eye, is ice.

Freezing is the transition from liquid to solid (heat is being lost from the system). Melting is the transition from solid to liquid (heat is being gained by the system)

No. Melting and freezing are physical changes. Melting point is a physical property.

What are the three important things to know about freezing and melting?

1. Substances don't have to be cold to freeze.2. Phase is a relationship between particles.3. Freezing temperature equals to the melting temperature.Hope this helped.

How is melting different then freezing?

Melting is from 'solid to liquid', freezing is from liquid changing to solid state
