Well how loosely are we considering "types" of carbon compounds?

At the most basic, you could say there are two types: organic and inorganic. Although theoritically any compound containing carbon should be considered organic, this is often not the case.

You could also catogorise the following way:

Organic; Inorganic compounds with other non-metals; Inorganic compounds with metals.

Compounds with metals can also be split further, to include:

Carbonates and bicarbonates; Carbonyls; Compounds containing the CN group; Carbides; and other miscilaneous compounds such as Bucky Balls!

What are the main kinds of carbon compounds present in coal and petroleum?

The main kinds of carbon compounds present in coal are hydrocarbons, aromatic compounds, and coal tar. In petroleum, the main carbon compounds are alkanes, cycloalkanes, alkenes, and aromatic compounds like benzene, toluene, and xylene.

Can compounds have different kinds of building blocks?

Yes, compounds can have different kinds of building blocks. For example, in organic compounds, carbon atoms can bond with other elements like hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and more to form a variety of complex structures with different properties. These building blocks combine in specific ways to create unique compounds with distinct chemical properties.

What compounds can carbon make?

Carbon can form a wide variety of compounds, including hydrocarbons (such as methane and benzene), organic compounds (such as carbohydrates and proteins), as well as inorganic compounds (such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide). Carbon can also form covalent bonds with other elements to create countless compounds due to its ability to bond with other carbon atoms and a variety of other elements.

What kinds if elements generally form covalent compounds?

Nonmetals typically form covalent compounds by sharing electrons to achieve a stable electron configuration. Examples of elements that commonly form covalent compounds include hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and fluorine.

All organic molecules contain the element?

All the organic compounds mainly consist of compounds formed by Carbon

What are the chemical similarities and differences among the four main kinds of organic compounds?

they are all carbon based

What is the role played by Carbon?

The thing about carbon is that it can form all kinds of carbon-carbon chains; this allows lots of interesting compounds, especially proteins, and a solution of proteins in water is fundamental to all life (as we know it).

What compounds containing carbon?

Every single organic thing contains carbon.

Why does carbon form the basis fo so many different kinds of compounds?

Because it can bond so well with itself. Note that its valance is 4, and that carbon can single, double, triple, or quadruple bond to carbon.

Compounds that contain carbon are called what?

Compounds containing carbon are referred to as organic compounds

Which compounds form the basis naming for carbon compounds?

It is carbon!

What are compounds that contain no carbon?

Compounds that contain no carbon are inorganic.

Why does carbon form the basis for so many different kinds of compounds?

Carbon has an unusual property called catenation: interconnexion of cabon atoms by C-C bonds in a huge variety.

What are inorganic carbon compounds?

these are carbon compounds not found in living things

What are the 2 kinds of compounds describe each?

Differentiate inorganic from organic compounds?

Basically, all organic compounds have carbon and organic chemistry is the study of carbon based comounds. Inorganic generally do not contain carbon (with exceptions being carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, metal carbonates, metal bicarbonates and metal carbides).
