The same elements may be isotopes , because it contains a different number of neutrons in the nucleus.

Hydrogen exhibits three different isotopes. viz:-

#1 ; protium ; 1 proton, 0 neutrons, 1 electron

#2 ; deuterium ; 1 proton, 1 neutron, 1 electron

#3 tritium ; 1 proton, 2 neutrons, 1 electron

NB Notice the different number of neutrons.

Basically, there are two things that make 2 atoms isotopes

1: there atomic number should be same(Number of protons/electrons should be the same)

2:there mass number (i.e number of neutrons+protons) should be the same.

Hope this helps

Atoms with a different number of neutrons than the normal amount it should have are called isotopes. For example, hydrogen atoms usually have 0 neutrons. If an hydrogen atom had 1 neutron, it would be an isotope.

Isotopes are atoms with different atomic masses which have the same atomic number. The atoms of different isotopes are atoms of the same chemical element; they differ in the number of neutrons in the nucleus.

What Two Atoms have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons what can you conclude about these two Atoms?

They are isotopes of each other.

They are isotopes of each other.

Why can't two atoms with the same mass number be isotopes of each other?

The number of protons must be the same.

Can isotopes have positive and negative charges?

Isotopes are just the different possible nuclear weights of each element. Some are stable; some are unstable and radioactive. Since all atoms are isotopes and all isotopes are atoms, Isotopes can - and do - form ions, consequently they can have positive and negative charges.

Why are molar masses not a whole number?

Because chlorine (like almost every other element) exists as several isotopes. The molar mass reflects the combined weight and proportion of each of those isotopes.

What are atoms of an element that each have different numbers of nutrons called?

They are called isotopes.

When two atoms have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons what are these atoms?

They are isotopes of each other.

Why don't isotopes have an electrical charge?

The atoms are like any other atom, the electron charge and proton charge cancel each other and the varying numbers of neutrons have no charge.

How many kinds of atoms are in an element?

Some elements have isotopes - atoms with a different number of neutrons.

What are atoms with the same element with varying numbers of neutrons?

Do u mean what are they called, the atoms of the same elements with the varying numbers of neutrons are called "Isotopes". they carry out the same functions in chemical reaction, and they are not chemically different from each other, but difference may persist during nuclear reaction.

Isotopes of an element differ from each other in the number of?

Isotopes of the same element differ in the number of neutrons. Isotopes have different physical properties but similar chemical properties.
