universal indicator will give you the PH of a substance no matter what PH it, phenolphthalein will turn pink in an acidic solution and will remain colourless in a basic or litmus paper which will turn blue in basic conditions and red in acidic conditions. alternatively you could just use a digital PH meter

How is pH connected to acids and bases?

The pH number determines if the substance is acidic or basic. Numbers 1-6 determine acidic substances, 1 being the most acidic. Numbers 8-14 determine basic substances, 14 being the most basic. 7 is neutral. (:

What does substance's pH tell you?

Ph tells you how acidic/basic a solution is. It is a measure of the relative concentrations of H+ ions to OH- ions.

How can you tell is a substance is acidic or basic?

A substance is acidic if it has a pH value of less than 7, while a substance is basic if it has a pH value greater than 7. One way to determine if a substance is acidic or basic is to use pH test strips or a pH meter to measure its pH level. Additionally, some substances may exhibit characteristic properties like taste, touch, or color that can give an indication of their acidity or basicity.

Is bicarbonate an acidic or basic substance?

Bicarbonate is a basic substance.

Are household substances classified as acidic basic or neutral?

Household substances can be classified as acidic, basic, or neutral based on their pH level. Substances with a pH less than 7 are acidic, those with a pH greater than 7 are basic, and those with a pH of 7 are neutral. Examples of acidic household substances include vinegar and lemon juice, while ammonia and baking soda are examples of basic household substances. Water is an example of a neutral household substance.

How do you determine if a substance is an acid or a base using phenolphtalein indicator?

Phenolphthalein is colorless in acidic solutions and pink in basic solutions. By adding phenolphthalein to a substance, you can observe the color change to determine if the substance is acidic or basic based on the change in color.

Is HCl considered a basic or acidic substance?

HCl is considered an acidic substance.

Is coffee considered to be an acidic or basic substance?

Coffee is considered to be an acidic substance.

What is an example of and neutral substance and a basic substance?

neutral substances are natural in nature whereas basic substances are basic .

What to do if yiu get corrosive substance on your work surface?

Corrosive substance can be removed with contrasting pH substances. Because corrosive substances are acidic or low on the pH scale, the solution to remove them needs to be high in the pH scale, or basic. Ammonia is an example of a basic solution.

Why are acidic substances lower in pH value than basic substances?

Acidic substances have higher concentrations of hydrogen ions (H+) which results in a lower pH value compared to basic (alkaline) substances. A lower pH value indicates a higher concentration of H+ ions, while a higher pH value indicates a higher concentration of hydroxide ions (OH-) found in basic substances.

Are all substances either acidic or basic?

No, not all substances are either acidic or basic. Some substances are neutral, meaning they have a pH of 7. Acidic substances have a pH below 7, basic substances have a pH above 7, and neutral substances have a pH of 7.
