a well plate is a little tray with usually20 or so dips in it used to hold chemicals. Its used to test chemical reactions, you put little drops in the "wells" and you can record what happens when other chemicals are introduced. Its number coded so you can test many solutions at once.

The only use I have noticed is the organized mixing of solutions to observe reactions. For instance, redox to test which compound is the most reactive by observing the precipitates.
