An element is a pure substance
A compound is two or more pure substances joined together chemically, such that they can not be separated physically - a new substance.
A mixture is two or more substances that are mixed up but not joined together, such that they can be separated physically.
There is also the a "solution" which is like a mixture but where the mixing is happening at a molecular level, it is possible to separate the components physically, but not easily.
Homogeneous mixture means the combination of genes is only one kind of gene where as heterogeneous means the combination has two different kinds.
Calcium Carbonate is a compound and an element. However, it is not a mixture. If it is a compound or a element, then it can not be a mixture
Mixture
Iodine is a chemical element; not a mixture, not a compound.
A mixture of oil and water is a mixture, not an element. If by substance you mean not a pure substance (element or compound), then oil and water would be a substance (that is a mixture). If you mean oil and water separately, then oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons, and water is a compound (pure substance).
