Best Answer

Pure water contains an equal number of hydronium (H3O+) and hydroxide (OH-) ions. This ratio is changed if an acid or a base is added to the water. An acid added to the water would increase the hydronium ion concentration of water.

when an acid solution is placed into water the pH of the substance increase eg. HCl with a relative acidity of approximately 2-3 will increase due to water being a neutral substance. Also the concentration of the acid will decrease, the molarity of it will decrease also.
