To be an element, a substance must have all the same type of atom. So, any substance that has more than one type of atom in isn't an element. Examples of non-element:

Sodium Chloride - 2 types of atoms

Carbon Dioxide - 2 types of atoms

Glucose - 3 types of atoms

Sulphuric Acid - 3 types of atoms
