Plastics are made through organic chemistry (the study of carbon compounds).

ALKENES are used to make plastics.

Plastics consist of many repeated monomers (small molecules).

The basic elements that make up most plastics are Carbon,Hydrogen,Oxigen,Nitrogen,Chlorine and Sulfur.(good job dumbo you spelled oxYgen wrong)

Plastics are made from several elements, mainly carbon and hydrogen. They also may have oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine or sulfur... etc. within them. The most common plastics are Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE), High density polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Low density polyethylene (LDPE); these contain only carbons and hydrogens. However common plastics like PVC have chlorine in their structure.

So it all depends on what plastic you're asking about. Look at the bottle of the plastic object in question. At the bottom there should be a symbol that has a number in it. These numbers correlate to the type of plastic resin that the object is made of. For example a milk jug here in the US is almost always a number 2 plastic... or HDPE

carbon and hydrogen

* * * * *

It depends on the plastic...Teflon is carbon and fluorine, polyester is carbon, hydrogen and oxygen (which are in most plastics), epoxy also contains chlorine, polyurethane and nylon contain nitrogen...
