Melting is a state change caused by the break of the strong bonds forming the solid that are substituted by weaker bonds characteristic of a liquid.

Transmitting heat to a solid body causes the temperature to increase, that is the energy of random thermal motion of the molecules constituting the body increases (in fact it is proportional to the temperature itself).

When a certain critical temperature arrives, the thermal energy is sufficiently high to break now and then the bonds among molecules. Further heat is not used to increase temperature, but to remove solid bonds. As a matter of fact, after reaching the melting temperature further heat does not increase temperature, but increases the quantity of liquid with respect to the quantity of solid. Weaker and more elastic liquid bonds are spontaneously formed at such temperature between available molecules that have been freed from the solid state.

In case of rocks they are generally composed by a mix of different solids that melt at different temperatures, thus it is possible that a part of rock melts at a certain temperature, while another part remains solid and increases further its temperature.

What factors determine how much stress a rock can handle before it will bend or break?

It could be any number of physical properties. The most obvious is compressive strength, which is the amount of force that is applied to a substance until it "breaks". Some other factors include density and the temperature of the rock.

What are the factors that determine the carbonation levels in soda?

The factors that determine the carbonation levels in soda are the amount of carbon dioxide gas dissolved in the liquid, the temperature of the soda, and the pressure inside the container.

What temperature does metal melt at in degrees Celsius?

The melting point of metal varies depending on the type of metal. For example, iron melts at 1,538 degrees Celsius, while gold melts at 1,064 degrees Celsius. It is important to know the specific metal in question to determine its melting point.

How do you determine the gold content of an ore rock?

The gold content of an ore rock is determined through a process called assaying, where a sample of the rock is analyzed to determine the amount of gold present in it. This is usually done through fire assay or chemical analysis methods to accurately quantify the gold content. The results are expressed as grams of gold per ton of ore rock.
