What gives us energy?

Food. Food goes down your esophagus{throat} to your stomach. then your stomach uses juices to break down the food. The energy goes to your cells. If you cells survive you will survive, but you will not if you don't have a good heart to give energy to your cells. The leftovers go to your anus private part you can see} and then you let it out. {You may think this gross but it is the TRUE process of the human body when your eating food.} Also, you won't get energy without sugar. Sugar is the main thing the human body needs to survive.

Ummm....NO! If I understand the question properly the answer is NOT oxygen (let this be a lesson not to believe everything you read online). Not all living things (ie. plants) require oxygen so that would mean the above answer is wrong. I guess it wasn't so easy after all.

This is going to be relatively short so I encourage you to do more research on ATP and not rely on this answer alone.

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the common form in which living organisms store energy (although it is not the only one). It is true that many living things (like humans and other animals...to quote above) need oxygen to live. Animals primarily rely on a process called aerobic cellular respiration to produce the large amounts of energy our cells need to function. Aerobic respiration refers to the presence of/need for oxygen in the production of energy. Aerobic respiration produces a net of roughly 38 ATP (there are arguments about the actual number which I am not going to get into here). Animals can also use a process called anaerobic respiration (does not use oxygen) which will produce a net of 2 ATP. For humans anaerobic respiration helps in times where this is a lack of oxygen (ie. muscle cells use it up) but it is produces too little energy to keep up with our body's demand and cannot sustain life forever (so yes, oxygen is needed, but only because it produces ATP).

I'm not going to get into the way different things produce energy. As I said before I don't know what exactly the question is asking, but RESPIRATION...whether it be aerobic (oxygen) or anaerobic (no oxygen) is the process that all living things use to create energy. The energy produced by both types of respiration is known as ATP. Hope that helps a little.
