Hydrogen is mostly said to belong to Alkali metals group because it has one electron in its outermost shell. and has an oxiation state of +1.

But it also sometimes place on the top of Halogens since it also one less electron than completion of orbital and sometimes an oxidation state of -1.

Hydrogen is a controversial element for Periodic Table.
