The molecules/atoms move far apart. As the separation between paricles increase, the state is changed. The temperature does not rise because the heat is used to overcome inter-molecular forces.
Nikki Kovacek
When a substance changes state from solid to liquid, it undergoes a process called melting where it absorbs heat energy. The particles gain enough energy to overcome the attractive forces holding them in a fixed position, allowing them to move more freely and take on a more disordered arrangement.

∙ 14y agoNothing, a state change as the one you described above is merely the loosening and quickening of the atoms in a material. Nothing takes the place of the area it occupied as a solid.

The temperature at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid is known as its melting point.
Phase changes occur when a substance changes from one state of matter to another, such as when a solid melts into a liquid or a liquid vaporizes into a gas. This usually happens when the substance's temperature or pressure is altered.
When a substance changes from a solid to a liquid and vice versa, its density changes.
The substance's melting point would be affected as it changes from a solid to a liquid.
Melting point is the temperature at which a solid substance changes to a liquid state. It is sometimes also called the liquefaction point.
The solid changes into a liquid
It can melt into a liquid, it can be juiced,

When a substance changes from liquid to solid is called freezing.
It sublimes

A substance changes from a solid to a liquid at its melting point
When a substance changes from a solid to a liquid, it is called melting. Freezing refers to the opposite process when a substance changes from a liquid to a solid. Condensation is the process of a gas turning into a liquid.
