One of the atoms in the bond (atom A) completes its electron shell by taking an electron from the other atom (atom B). This results in atom A becoming a negatively charged ion called an anion. Atom B becomes a positively charged ion called a cation. The bond occurs because positive and negative charges are attracted to each other. The compounds that result from ionic bonds are referred to as salts. The most commonly known salt is NaCl (table salt). When Na (Sodium) and Cl (Chlorine) start out as individual atoms they are both neutral. However Cl only needs 1 electron to have a complete electron shell and Na has the ability to lose an electron. So Na gives its electron to Cl which results in the cation Na+ and the anion Cl-. These two ions are attracted to each other since opposite charges attract, and they form an ionic bond.

What happens to salt when it dissolve in water?

since salt is ionically bonded, it breaks apart into its anions and cations (+ and - charged ions) and becomes part of the aqueous solution.

What happens two electrons when atoms share covalent bond?

They are shared by the valence shells of the atoms involved in the bond.

Can three atoms form ionic bond?

No, three atoms cannot form an ionic bond. Ionic bonds are typically formed between two atoms with significantly different electronegativities, where one atom transfers one or more electrons to the other. With three atoms, it is not possible for two atoms to have a strong enough attraction to bond ionically while the third atom remains uninvolved.

How many chloride atoms will magnesium bond?

Magnesium atoms, which form divalent cations, can each bond ionically with two chloride ions, because chlorine atoms form anions with only one negative charge each. ("Chloride atoms" as written in the question do not exist: chlorine atoms form chloride ions by gaining one electron each from less electronegative atoms.)

What is responsible for an ionic bond?

An ionic bond is a bond that is resulted between two atoms because of an electron transfer. This happens by thephenomenaatoms have to be attracted to other atoms who will complete their valence electron shell.
