The dye methylene blue inhibits the growth of gram positive bacteria. While the eosin acts as a pH indicator, measuring the levels of acid production due to the fermentation of lactose.
Eosin is a stain that is used for staining the cells to observe the structurea nd number of cells. It is an acidophilic stain.
