I suppose "molecular acid" caught on with the "Alien" movie. A dumb "sci"-fi choice of words. All the substances we call "acids" are molecules, from the simple, yet deadly hydrochloric acid (HCl) to the maps of life, DNA and RNA. The fabled "aqua regia" is probably one of the toughest combinations (hydrochloric + nitric), being able to dissolve even gold or platinum. Sulphuric, phosphoric, you name it, they're all molecules. In effect, "molecular acid" is nothing more than tautology.
