Best Answer

An electrical device that converts alternating current into direct current is a rectifier. Diodes, which pass only current going one direction, are a type of rectifier.

Most power supplies for electronic equipment contain rectifiers along with other components to "clean" the DC power output.

What are the simple applications of bridge rectifier?

A bridge recifier is a full wave rectifier. It takes each part of the AC waveform, rectifies it and adds them together, giving a smoother output compared to a half wave recifier. They are used in simple power supplies, using a mains transformer, a bridge rectifier and a smoothing capacitor. Further regulation can then be added for stable power supplies.

What is SCRS..?

A SCR is a Silcon Controlled Recifier. It is a four layer device that can be conceptually considered to be two transistors in latch up configuration. (Though not exactly) For an SCR, there will be no conduction between anode and cathode until the gate / cathode junction is biased on. At that point, the SCR will latch up and conduct from anode to cathode, regardless of further changes on the gate. This condition will persist until the anode / cathode voltage drops to zero. The SCR can be used as a half wave dimmer in an AC circuit. If you want full wave operation, you need to use a bridge rectifier around the SCR, or use a TRIAC/DIAC circuit.

How do you replace voltage regulator on 2003 Honda Shadow?

The voltage regulator is also known as a rectifier in shop talk and is easily replaced. The recifier is held in place with two machine screws. Simply loosen and remove the screws, then disconnect the black plastic connector that connects the rectifier to the wiring harness. There is a black protective cover around the connector which needs to be pulled back a bit in order to unplug the connector. In case you have rectifier problems, such as overheating or the wires to and from it getting fried, resulting in a dead battery and starting problems, then you should check out if there is a short to earth somewhere or any wire connectors gone bad. Also check if there is a short in the stator wiring. Rectifer problems are common on older bikes because the wiring harness and the connectors get worn or shorted. Some people have simply done away with the connectors and soldered the wires together. This is especially true of some of the connectors found below the seat. I know of at least one case where such soldering of wires and elimination of connectors fixed a recurring rectifier problem.

What is the difference between welding rectifier and welding transformer?

A rectifier is an arrangement of diodes (devices that only allow current to flow in one direction), half-wave or full-wave, that converts AC to pulsated DC. A capacitor (condenser) is used to smooth out the pulsated DC for a more true DC supply. A transformer is usually comprised of two coils of wire around an iron core that changes the ratio of input voltage/current to output voltage/current. It does this by induction (a magnetic field crossing through a coil of wire producing electricity). The Primary coil (the input) usually is a bit thicker and has less windings than the Secondary coil (the output).
