Carbon monoxide is a powerful ligand.

As a ligand it will displace the porphyrin ring from Iron (III) in the blood stream.

Since it displaces the porphyrin ring, the phorphyrin ring cannot accept/discharge oxygen and carbon DIOXDE, because the electron movement through the ring has been disturbed. Thereby the body is starved of oxygen and carbon dioxide is not removed.

The signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, drowsiness, sleep and death.

What is the chemical formula for carbonmonoxide?

Carbon monoxide has the chemical formula CO

Does carbonmonoxide reacts with hydrochloric acid?

No, carbon monoxide does not react with hydrochloric acid. Carbon monoxide is a non-reactive gas under normal conditions and does not typically undergo reactions with common acids like hydrochloric acid.

What happens to the carbon in natural gas when the gas burns in a badly fitted gas fire?

if a gas fire has been incorrectly fitted and cannot draw enough oxygen from the area it is heating. Carbonmonoxide is produced which is colorless and odourless gas and is hazardous for animals . if it is breathed,it stops the circulation of blood. The person who breathed carbonmonoxide would die eventually.

How does smoking effect gas exchange?

Smoking damages the delicate tissues in the lungs, leading to inflammation and scarring. This damage reduces the surface area available for gas exchange, making it harder for oxygen to enter the bloodstream and for carbon dioxide to be removed. Over time, this can lead to respiratory issues and decreased lung function.

Why is the lack if of oxygen in the brain cell able to cause death?

A lack of oxygen in brain cells (hypoxia) can lead to cell damage and death due to the brain's high energy demands and sensitivity to oxygen deprivation. Without oxygen, brain cells are unable to produce energy through aerobic respiration, leading to cell dysfunction and ultimately cell death, which can result in neurological deficits or death.
