What is exitoxicology?

Exitotoxicology is the study of excitatory neurotransmitters, such as glutamate, and their role in causing damage to nerve cells when present in excess amounts. This damage can occur through overstimulation of nerve cells, leading to cell death and potentially contributing to various neurologic disorders and conditions.
