Best Answer

Oxone is a "brand name" of ozone made in pure oxygen as a parent gas.

Ozone is a molecule of oxygen with three oxygen molecules (O3) instead of the normal oxygen molecule with two oxygen atoms (O2)
Ozone is formed by electrical discharges (sparks or lightning) or by sunlight's ultraviolet light. The second case is in play in the stratosphere (the ozone layer) and during the formation of photochemical smog in the troposphere.
Ozone has a characteristic odour (the electric spark or thunderstorm smell)
Ozone is toxic to microorganisms. It is used as a disinfectant

What makes scientists think that the oxone layer is dissapearing?

It is because of CFC's. They react with ozone to deplete it.

Is oxone and ozone the same thing?

Ozone can be made in air, or in varying concentrations of oxygen and air. Some salesmen think "new" names are helpful, so this is probably "oxone" = "ozone made in oxygen for a parent gas". When it gives you a headache, it will smell sweeter when doing it.

What chemicals does virkon contain?

What is being done in tha US to stop damage to the ozone layer?

Certain CFCs have been banned, which turned out to be long-term ozone depleters. Other than that, increasing gas prices (caused by speculators trying for profit), will be the next big step by reducing combustion of fossil fuels (slight increase in oxygen, slight decrease in water vapor at altitude).

What will happen if the use of CFC is eliminated?

CFC's were banned because in the upper atmosphere they can decompose ozone under the impact of ultraviolet radiation (which is stronger there) to form free radicals, which then catalyze the decomposition of ozone. Because they act as catalysts, they are not used up in the reaction and can continue to decompose many, many ozone molecules per molecule of CFC. The ozone layer is the main barrier to ultraviolet light, so weakening it would mean more UV reaching the surface. UV light is deadly to one-celled organisms, and it's not all that great for higher animals either, since it can cause skin cancers.
