A paraprotein is a monoclonal immunoglobulin of blood plasma or plasma protein, caused by the abnormal rapid multiplication of a single cell. Paraproteins may be seen in different malignant, benign, and nonneoplastic diseases. The term paraprotein in now often replaced with that of M component.
