It depends on the concentration. Common muratic acid is around 20-something percent, and if you get some on your skin, it takes around fifteen seconds for anything to set in. Drain cleaner hydrochloric acid is relatively safer, as it is only ten percent.
Lab-grade hydrochloric acid, on the other hand, can eat a chunk off your skin in less then ten seconds.
