No, a dog is not just a chemical compound but a mass of bioorganic and bioinorganic compounds, and also chemical compounds. You would not believe the amount of compounds that exist within an animal. Every part of the process that allows respiration for example is a series of intricate biomolecules (maybe 1000 times a regular chemistry molecule size each) at work.
