each K is 1/24 part gold. So, 24K is 24/24 parts but 22K is only 22/24 parts. 18K is 18/24 parts and 10K is only 10/24 parts gold with 14/24 parts anything else.
24K isn't always "better" though. Gold is soft and some things need to be hard due to their intended use. A 24K ring will be easily damaged for example while a 10K will hold up to considerable wear.
The difference between 14K and 24K gold is the purity level. 24K gold is pure gold, meaning it contains 99.9% gold. In contrast, 14K gold is an alloy containing 58.3% gold and other metals like silver or copper. This makes 14K gold more durable and less prone to scratching or bending compared to 24K gold.
The purity of gold is measured in karats, with 24k being pure gold. To determine if gold is 22k, you can have it tested by a professional jeweler or use a gold testing kit that measures the gold content. Additionally, most jewelry pieces are stamped with a karat mark, indicating its purity level.
