Corrosion is the chemical or electrochemical reaction between a material and its environment. The material is usually a metal. The reactions produces a deterioration of the material.Rust is the oxide that is formed by open-air oxidation of iron. Rusting is caused by the action of oxygen and moisture not by chemicals.
Corrosion is the deterioration of a metal caused by a chemical reaction. An example would be when your car battery's metal terminals start gunking up after a bit of the battery acid leaks on them. Rust is also a form of corrosion, a chemical reaction between iron metal and oxygen.
The definition of erosion literally means the grinding down, or the gradual wearing away of something and can actually refer to just about anything. Usually, however, the word is used in the context of soil lost by natural weather conditions. For example, beaches that seem to shrink after a hurricane is caused by the erosion, or the wearing away, of the sand as high tides eventually recede. Another example is rivers that grow wider over time as the water carries little bits of the soil and rock downstream.
In general terms, corrosion normally happens because of chemical reactions. Erosion occurs by chemical reactions and by certain forces of nature.

A corroded metal is any metal that has reacted with a gas or liquid to produce something that, while still retaining some of the original properties of it's metal, has metal content too low to be of any use.
Rust is any metal that has reacted specifically with oxygen. This is the most common form of corrosion.
When iron reacts with oxygen, it forms a red-brown layers called rust (iron oxide)
Rusted iron is not pure iron; it is an iron oxide.
Rusted iron does not always have the same chemical composition. The rust itself always contain both iron and oxygen, but the proportions between these two elements can vary considerably. If there is plenty of oxygen and time, the rust itself approaches the composition of pure ferric oxide, with formula Fe2O3. Unless the original iron was very thin, however, some un-rusted iron always remains, so that the total composition of the rusted iron overall is still uncertain, unless measured for a particular sample.

I had the same problem with my 02 Envoy. Check to make sure contacts inside the sockets are intact. I had to replace both of mine. Contact were corroded and rusted out.

Alternator output post is rusted / corroded. Plastic cover may display melting. Mine was rusted and changing the cable terminal did not provide a long term solution. Ended up replacing alternator and cable.
Condensation Or the tank rusted out
then you should have your radiator flushed because you have rust in it. FYI: antifreeze can strip the paint off of your it you spill it. Also, you may need to replace your radiator if the antifreeze is leaking, it may be through a rusted/corroded portion of the radiator.
