Intermolecular is the bonding between the molecules (what connects them all together) For example dispersion, dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonding (HFON)

Intramolecular is the bonding between the atoms like ionic covalent or metallic.

For example in a water molecule the intermolecular bonding would be the hydrogen bonding. The non-bonding pairs will connect with other water molecules non-bonding pairs to create a hydrogen bond. Whereas the intramolecular bonding would be covalent. Because that's what joins the individual hydrogen atoms to one oxygen atom.

What is the difference between an intermolecular and an intramolecular bond?

An intermolecular bond is a bond between molecules that holds them together in a substance, while an intramolecular bond is a bond within a single molecule that holds its atoms together. In general, intermolecular bonds are weaker than intramolecular bonds.

What is the difference between intermolecular forces and intramolecular bonds?

Intramolecular bonds refer to the bonds that hold atoms together within a molecule. These bonds are typically covalent or ionic. Intermolecular forces are forces of attraction between different molecules and are weaker than intramolecular bonds. Examples of intermolecular forces include hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, and dipole-dipole interactions.

Are the intramolecular forces in paradichlorobenzene stronger than the intermolecular forces?

Yes, intramolecular forces such as covalent bonds in paradichlorobenzene are stronger than intermolecular forces like van der Waals forces between molecules. Intramolecular forces hold atoms within a molecule together, while intermolecular forces act between molecules.

When water evaporates are intermolecular or intramolecular bonds broken?

When water evaporates, intermolecular bonds between water molecules are broken, not intramolecular bonds within the water molecule itself. The intermolecular bonds that are broken are hydrogen bonds between water molecules, allowing them to separate and become a gas.

Which is stronger intramolecular or intermolecular force in the case of covalent bond?

In the case of a covalent bond, the intramolecular force is stronger than the intermolecular force. The covalent bond holds atoms together within a molecule, while intermolecular forces are weaker interactions between molecules.

What is the difference between inter-molecular hydrogen bond and intra-molecular hydrogen bond with examples?

An intermolecular hydrogen bond forms between different molecules, while an intramolecular hydrogen bond forms within the same molecule. For example, water molecules form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with each other, whereas in the case of ethanol, the -OH group in the same molecule can form an intramolecular hydrogen bond.

The difference between cohesion and adhesion?

Adhesion is the intermolecular attraction between 'unlike-molecules' (usually referred to the attraction or joining of two different objects of fluids to each other).Cohesion is the intermolecular attraction between 'like-molecules' (usually referred to the strength with which the particles of an object of fluid attract to each other)

Forming attractions between solute and solvent particles is an?

interaction process called solvation, where solvent molecules surround and bond to solute particles. This interaction is crucial in dissolving solutes in solvents and forming a homogenous solution. Favoured by similar intermolecular forces between solute and solvent molecules.

What are water's intermolecular bonds?

Water's intermolecular bonds include hydrogen bonds, which form between the hydrogen atom of one water molecule and the oxygen atom of another water molecule. These hydrogen bonds play a crucial role in water's unique properties such as high surface tension, high specific heat capacity, and cohesive behavior.

Why is there an extraordinary difference in melting points between cyclohexane and cyclohexene?

The extraordinary difference in melting points between cyclohexane and cyclohexene is due to the difference in shape. Cyclohexene has an awkward geometry to stack with sp2 hybridized bond angles. This lends to an extreme low melting point for cyclohexene.

Why can solids be converted to liquids?

In solids the intermolecular spaces are very small and the intermolecular forces of attraction are very high. When a solid is heated or get some form of energy, due to this the bonds between the molecules break and the intermolecular spaces increase. Thus as intermolecular spaces in liquid is greater it is converted to a liquid.
