It depends on the brand. Some brands use a certain chemical because they believe it is better. Other brands use certain chemicals because it is cheaper to manufacture.

Ammonia is a common ingredient in cheap household window cleaners. Ammonia is also a fertiliser and is irritable to the eyes.

Ethanol is the active ingredient in natural window cleaners, regarded as the safest to be used around children, but should still be kept out of their reach as it is still harmful if ingested. It also costs a bit more.

Isopropyl Alcohol is the active ingredient in most household window cleaners which are priced a fair bit more than the ammonia-based ones, but usually not as much as ethanol-based. This chemical is favoured because it evaporates, leaving behind no residue on the glass.

Methanol is also another ingredient for some. Methanol is poisonous so it is not suitable to be used around children. Methanol-based window cleaner is primarily used for heavy duty cleaning, such as in vehicle windscreen washing fluid.
