An atom consists of a heavy small nucleus in the center and electrons revolving around it. Nearly all mass is concentrated in the nucleus. The electrons are forming a cloud around the nucleus because they are moving with an enormous speed. Take an example of an atom of Carbon. It has 6 protons and 6 neutrons in the nucleus and 6 electrons revolving around it. Its mass is 12 atomic units and the it has a valency of 4.
The nucleus of carbon has a mass of 1.92x10^-26 Kg whereas the six electrons have a total mass of 9.11x10^-31 Kg. We can, in some cases ignore the mass of electros all together. On the other hand the size(radius) of the nucleus of carbon-12 is 2.7x 10^-15m and the size(radius) of an atom of C-12 is 1.7x10^-10m. The density i.e mass per unit volume of C-12 is 2.26x10^3 Kg/m^3 and the density of nucleus of C-12 is 1.7x10^17Kg/m^3.
Try calculating it by yourself. It is interesting.
Visualize if all the electrons were detached from the nucleus and we have a nuclear mass, how much heavy it will be?
The atom is made up of the nucleus (neutrons and protons) and electrons.
No the center of an atom (nucleus) is made up of both protons and neutrons.
The nucleus of an atom is made up of protons and neutrons. Which are then made up of quarks. This type of science is called quantum mechanics.
Atoms are made of a nucleus that is surrounded by electron clouds. The nucleus is formed from all the atom's protons and neutrons. Proton and neutrons are made up of even smaller particles called quarks.
The nucleus is the center of an atom and is made up of protons and neutrons. Electrons freely orbit around the nucleus.
The center of an atom is made up of protons and neutrons it's called the nucleus.
The nucleus of an atom is made up of protons and neutrons.
The nucleus of an atom is made of 'Protons' and 'Neutrons'. The nucleus of an atom is then surrounded by 'Electrons'.
The atom is made up of the nucleus (neutrons and protons) and electrons.
An atom comprises an atomic nucleus with orbiting electrons. So the nucleus is smaller than an atom. To phrase it the opposite way, an atom is alwys larger than the nucleus (of the same atom of course!!)
The nucleus is the center of an atom and is made up of protons and neutrons. Electrons freely orbit around the nucleus.
The nucleus is the center of an atom and is made up of protons and neutrons. Electrons freely orbit around the nucleus.
The mass of an atom is concentrated in the nucleus, which is made up of protons and neutrons.
The nucleus is the dense center of an atom made of neutrons and protons surrounded by clouds of electrons.
Protons and neutrons
The nucleus of an atom contains neutrons and protons. Almost all of the mass in an atom is made up from the protons and neutrons in the nucleus. Because the nucleus is only made up of protons and neutrons, it is positively charged. Physicists believe that there is a cluster of Protons and Neutrons within an Atom's nucleus. Friend Premier is quite right. So instead saying inside the nucleus it would be apt to say that nucleus is made up of...
