Francium is a chemical element, its atomic number is 87 and its symbol is Fr. It's a metal that is highly radioactive. It was discovered by French scientist Marguerite Perey in the year 1939. Perey worked at the Curie Institute in Paris, France, she first named the new element 'Actinium-K', later she proposed the name 'Catium', but after finding opposition to it, she proposed the name 'Francium', after France, the name was accepted in the year 1949 by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.
