Water gives living organisms something to drink, to swim in, to splash around in; to lap up, to get drenched in, and sometimes to drown in. It gives them something to takes baths in, showers in, to submerge and hold their breath, and even to hide in; to get sprinkled on and misted with, to be flooded with, and even get torrential downpoured all over in only a few seconds with.

The role of water is something to keep ones paws out of, to run away from when the bath is seen coming, while for others such as birds, it provides showers that are very much looked forward to and quite heartily enjoyed.

Waters role for living organisms is far more important than its role is for dead organisms, that's for sure.

It has the qualities of a solvent, and is used to clean things, and to prepare things for painting, as well as before eating. It's a medium for transfering heat and often used for cooking; and it's also a heat transfer agent, providing cooling for the body and other things through its quality of evaporation in very warm climates and on very hot days.

Water also provides organisms with the ability to transport and carry nutrients and oxygen throughout their bodies; it provides the mechanism to transfer toxins and waste products out of their bodies; it provides the primary base of all body fluids, and keeps their bodies operating and functioning well, within a comfortable and a healthy temperature range.

It gives some organisms the ability to sneak up on their next meal at their local watering hole, river, or swamp, while it gives other organisms a place to lay their eggs, and raise their young. For others it gives them a place to walk upon, or to fly over, and for others a place to dive into to get their next meal.

Water certainly has lots of great roles, and while some are just fun, others are incredibly important... some would even say critical. Some organisms see water as something that's fun to just play in, but one things for sure, if there weren't any water anywhere to be found, then there is no life on earth that would exist anyplace at all.
