Answer It depends on what salt you mean- Table Salt will.

For instance, a solution of table salt (NaCl) and H2SO4 (Sulfuric acid) will react to produce Hydrogen Chloride gas (HCL) and Sodium Bisulfate (NaSO4). In a room temperature solution, the following ions will be present: Na+, Cl-, H+ and HSO4-. The salt and the sulfuric acid will dissociate into ions, just as they would individually when added to water.

NaCl + H2SO4 NaHSO4 + HCl

This reaction does not require high temperatures as previously stated, as I have done this outside in the middle of winter with great results.

What salts does sulfuric acid make?

Sulfuric acid can form salts by reacting with metals, metal oxides, metal hydroxides or metal carbonates. Some common salts produced from sulfuric acid include sulfates such as sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), copper sulfate (CuSO4) and zinc sulfate (ZnSO4).

What happens if epsom salts and h2so4 mix?

When Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) are mixed with sulfuric acid (H2SO4), a reaction occurs where the magnesium sulfate is protonated by the sulfuric acid to form magnesium bisulfate and water. This reaction releases heat and should be handled carefully due to the corrosive nature of sulfuric acid.

What is the formula sulfurous acid?

Sulfuric acid (alternative spelling sulphuric acid) is a strong mineral acid with the molecular formula H2SO4. Its historical name is vitriol. The salts of sulfuric acid are called sulfates. Sulfuric acid is soluble in water at all concentrations.
