If one substance is losing electrons (where it is gaining charge, or oxidizing), we must assume those electrons are going to another substance in the reaction, which will cause the charge to go down, or reduce. This type of equation is called a Redox (reduction-oxidation) reaction.

An oxidation reaction occurs when a chemical substance loses electrons to another substance. The substance gaining electrons undergoes a reduction reaction. These types of reactions are called oxidation-reduction reactions, or redox reactions.

Oxidation reactions occur when the oxidation state of an atom increases, such as occurs when an atom loses electron(s). A reduction reaction occurs when the oxidation state of an atom is decreased, such as occurs when an atom gains electrons. Not all redox reactions result in an actual gain or loss of electrons, such as in reactions involving covalent bonds. However, they always involve the increase or decrease of oxidation state.

Can elements be joined together in chemical reactions?

No and element cannot be broken down or changed into another substance through a chemical change. The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom determines the identity of the substance. But, a chemical change involves only the atoms electrons. -SmartyPants94

What is the classification of chemical reactions?

When one substance or combination of substances undergo change to become another substance or substances

What type of reactions occur when one substance donates electrons and another substance accepts those electrons?

That reaction is called Ionic bonding. Hope I helped, 2000AD

What are products in the chemical reaction?

endothermic and exothermic reactions

Is the ability to combine with another substance physical?

The ability to combine with another substance is a chemical change. This is because once the substance is made it can not be taken out.

What is chysical change?

Chemical changes occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance, called chemical synthesis or, alternatively, chemical decomposition into two or more different substances. These processes are called chemical reactions and, in general, are not reversible except by further chemical reactions.

A type of mixture in which one substance is dissolved into another?

these are chemicals that speed up chemical reactions?

Is it a chemical reaction when one substance is added to another substance and it becomes warmer?

Thousand of thousands chemicals can be combined by chemical reactions.

What is a change that alters the form or appearance of a substance but does not make it into other substance?

It is considered a physical change. A chemical change involves chemical reactions that change the substance into another substance. A physical change typically only modifies the form or phase.

What part of the atom is involved in a chemical bond?

A standard chemical reaction always and only involves a change in the electron configuration of the atom (either the number of electrons or their energy configuration). If the nucleus is affected (either the number of protons or electrons), then it is designated as a nuclear reaction, and this is quite different.

What is a chemical property determined by?

by the number of electrons in its outermost shell

What parts of an atom participate in chemical reactions?

When an element reacts with another element, they form a compound. How a compound is formed has to do with the number of valence electrons. The valence electrons are the electrons which are held in the outer most energy level.
