∙ 13y agoI cannot be set on fire, unless you mix it with alcohol and put one end of a long piece of string into the bottom of the container and the other end to the ground. then, set the end of the string on the ground on fire and run, look back and enjoy the mini bomb. blows half a foot in the air and a foot long n the ground.

But elements like magnesium will burn so violently under water that they break apart the water molecule and steal oxygen from it. There are also some compounds that supply their own oxygen - for example, the thermite reaction (2Al + Fe2O3 --> 2Fe + Al2O3) will carry on under water.
