Hi,

Actually, Lime is not a very scientifically accurate name, as it used to refer to several kinds of naturally occurring mineral compounds, all containing Calcium, together with various other inorganic elements. Limestone, for example, which is a precursor of Lime used for construction, is basically a Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) deposit combined with many different kind of Calcium salts (Ionic compounds) - that's why there are so many kind of limestone. Limestone can be turned into lime by heating it to more than 800 degrees centigrade where it turns into Calcium oxide (CaO, also known as quicklime) and carbon di-oxide (CO2). This reaction is called Calcinaiton.

Quicklime can also be prepared from Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2, also known as slaked lime) by heating, which releases water vapors, leaving unhydrated (without water) Calcium oxide. Calcium hydroxide can be prepared from Calcium oxide by adding water to it, which releases quite a large amount of heat. So, if you meant to ask about this, then the reaction of Ca(OH)2 --(heat)--> CaO + H2O.

As a side note - if quicklime is heated to over 2400 degrees centigrade, it emits a very bright glow (which is not a result of a chemical process but rather a physical process) which was used for lighting theaters - hence the word "limelights"...

What is when the products are simpler substances than the reactant?

When the products are simpler substances than the reactants, it typically means that a decomposition reaction has occurred. In a decomposition reaction, a compound breaks down into simpler substances, such as elements or smaller compounds. This can be represented by the general equation: AB → A + B.

What is the type of reaction in which the reactant gives simpler products?

The type of reaction in which a reactant gives simpler products is called a decomposition reaction. In a decomposition reaction, a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances.

Which reaction results in the breakdown of a chemical into simpler substances?

A decomposition reaction results in the breakdown of a chemical into simpler substances. In this type of reaction, a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances.

What is the chemical reaction when a complex compound breaks into two or more simpler compounds?

decomposition

The products in a decomposition reaction?

In a decomposition reaction, a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances. The products of a decomposition reaction are the simpler substances that result from the breakdown of the original compound.

What is a chemical reaction that breaks down compounds into simpler products?

A chemical reaction that breaks down compounds into simpler products is called a decomposition reaction. In this type of reaction, a compound is broken down into individual elements or simpler compounds through various processes such as heat, light, or the addition of another compound. An example is the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas.

Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygenexplain why this is a chemical reactionwhat are the reactants and products in the reaction?

Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen through a decomposition reaction, where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances. The reactants in this reaction are hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and the products are water (H2O) and oxygen (O2).

What kind of chemical reaction breaks up compounds into simpler constituents?

A decomposition reaction breaks up compounds into simpler constituents. The pattern for this reaction is AB --> A + B. An example is the electrolysis of sodium chloride (NaCl) into elemental sodium and chlorine, 2NaCl --> 2Na + Cl2.

A blank reaction is when a substance breaks down into two or more simpler substances?

A blank reaction is typically referred to as a decomposition reaction. In this type of chemical reaction, a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler products, often due to the application of heat, light, or electricity. Decomposition reactions are essential in various chemical processes and can occur in both organic and inorganic substances. Examples include the breakdown of water into hydrogen and oxygen gases through electrolysis.
