CaO + 3C >> CaC2 + CO

This reaction can not be produced at a normal temperature achieved by combustion, but in an electric arc furnace. I can find out no more than that.

Added:because the 'valency' of carbide is NOT uniqely -4:

Actually in metal salts it's ion is (C2)2- , so with Ca2+ it forms CaC2

The structural formule is not C-Ca-C but -Ca-(C=C)- formed in a chain with a triple bond between the Carbon atoms: ..... -Ca-C---C-Ca-C---C-Ca-..... etc.

Even in ethyn H2C2 it is considered to have a -2 valency, though this is not a ionic (metal) salt.

Which elements are found in calcium carbide?

Calcium and carbon are the main elements found in calcium carbide. The chemical formula for calcium carbide is CaC2, indicating one calcium atom and two carbon atoms in each molecule.

Why Formula of calcium carbide is CaC2?

The oxidation value (number) of C atom in carbide (not corbide) is -1, and of Ca always +2. This makes one Ca reacting with two C atoms in forming CaC2.Calcium Carbide is a common but improper name for CaC2.It's proper name is Calcium Acetylide. In Calcium Acetylide there are three covalent bonds joining the Carbon atoms, andthe forth bond of each Carbon go to Calcium forming an ionic bond.Crystal structure :The common crystalline form at room temperature is tetragonal, a distorted rock salt structure with the C22− units lying parallel.(Cf. Calcium carbide-types of bonds?

Calcium carbide, with the chemical formula CaC2, is composed of calcium and carbon atoms. The bond between calcium and carbon in calcium carbide is predominantly ionic, where calcium donates electrons to carbon to form the stable compound. This ionic bond is strong and contributes to the stability of calcium carbide.

Is calcium carbide CaC2 an element or compound?

It's a compound.
