Lanthanide chemistry is dominated by the +3 oxidation state and as such they bear a superfical resemblance to group 13. Lanthanide 3+ ions are larger than those of group 13. Group 13 elemnents Ga, In, Tl also form compounds wher the metal oxidation number is +1. Lanthanides on the other hand can form compunds with formal oxidation number of +2, (in particular Eu) , and +4 (in particular Ce).

Elements from atomic number 57 (Lanthanum) to 71 (Lutetium) are called the Lanthanides. Lanthanide means "like Lanthanum" and so, the Lanthanides are based on Lanthanum. Only one of the Lanthanides is radioactive: Promethium (Pm - No. 61)

Are group 12 on the periodic table lanthandies or actinides?

Group 12 elements on the periodic table are not lanthanides or actinides. They are transition metals, also known as the zinc group, which includes elements like zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg). Lanthanides and actinides are separate groups that are located in the inner transition metals section of the periodic table.
