Each chapter is in the point of view of a character. At the end of that chapter is the symbol for that specific character.
It's difficult to describe, but I'll try:
The one that looks like a sideways figure-eight is the seer (Rex). The one that looks like a person is for the acrobat (Jonathan). The one with the circle bisecting two triangles is for the polymath (Dess). The staff with a circle surrounding a sparkle on top is the firebringer (Jessica). The last one, a bright star with an oval attached at the left is for the mindcaster (Melissa). A picture of all the symbols is here: http://www.scottwesterfeld.com/blogimages/5symbols.jpg
The " symbol is called a quotation mark.
The chemical symbol for indium is In
The symbol for magnesium is Mg.
The chemical symbol of curium is Cm.
There is no "symbol for CrO".
As for the midnighters series: Midnighters Book one The secret hour is worth 10 points. Midnighters Book two Touching Darkness is worth 11 points. Midnighters Book three Blue noon is worth 13 points.

I think it would be Jessica... But you could say its all four of the midnighters, Rex, Jessica, Dess, and Melissa.
Rex, the seer. :)
Melissa; the mindcaster.
Yes
Midnighters is an awesome book. The best I have ever read. It is about five teenage kids who have an extra hour a day because they were born at the stroke of midnight. They became Midnighters and have to explore this hour all alone. The darklings and slithers (the bad guys) created the secret hour to excape human technologies. They usually don't bother the Midnighters but then when the new girl,Jessica Day, comes to town the darklings go out of their way to try and kill her. The other midnighters find her and save her using steel and thirteen letter words. The other midnighters are Rex Melissa and Dess. Later Jessica meets Johnathan another midnighter who the others don't talk about. I highly recomend this book for any and everyone.
