∙ 15y agoSodium. Na is an abbreviation of the latin Natrium. Na stands for the element Sodium rather than being a "mineral." Minerals may be combinations of elements, called compounds. The element sodium has a small. light atom and ususally combines with other elements to form compounds called "salts." A very common sodium compound is sodium chloried (NaCl) found as common table salt. But there are many other compounds (minerals) that sodium can be a part of.
