Niels Bohr (1885-1962) was a young Danish physicist and a student of Rutherford. He believed Rutherford's model needed improvement. So in 1913 Bohr changed Rutherford's model to include newer discoveries about how the energy of an atom changes when it absorbs or emits light. He considered the simplest atom, hydrogen, which has one electron. Bohr proposed that an electron is found only in specific circular paths, or orbits, around the nucleus.

Which model of the atom first proposed that electrons orbit the nucleus?

The Bohr model of the atom was the first to propose that electrons orbit the nucleus in fixed paths or energy levels. This model was proposed by Niels Bohr in 1913, and it helped to explain the stability of atoms and the emission of specific frequencies of light.

What scientist discovered electron shell in 1913?

The scientist who discovered the electron shell in 1913 was Niels Bohr. He proposed the Bohr model of the atom, which described electrons orbiting the nucleus in distinct energy levels or shells. This model helped explain the stability and spectral properties of atoms.

Who developed the model of an atom as a build up of successive orbital shells of electrons?

J.J Thompson discovered the electron during his famous cathode ray tube experiment in 1897, but it was actually Niels Bohr who discovered the electron shell (by accident), performing an x-ray experiment in 1909.

Who proposed the electron orbit model?

Niels Bohr proposed the electron orbit model in 1913 as an improvement to the previous model proposed by Ernest Rutherford. Bohr's model suggested that electrons orbit the nucleus in specific energy levels, which helped explain the stability of the atom.

Who thought that electrons orbited around the nucleus?

Niels Bohr proposed the idea that electrons orbit around the nucleus in specific energy levels. This model, known as the Bohr model, was a significant advancement in understanding the structure of the atom.

What is the difference between Ernest Rutherford and Niels Bohr?

Ernest Rutherford is known for his discovery of the atomic nucleus and the Rutherford model of the atom. Niels Bohr, on the other hand, proposed the Bohr model of the atom, which introduced the concept of quantized electron orbits. Both scientists made significant contributions to the field of atomic theory.

What was the date that Niels Bohr discovered atomic theory?

Niels Bohr's atomic theory, known as the Bohr model, was proposed in 1913. This theory revolutionized our understanding of atomic structure by introducing the concept of quantized energy levels within the atom.
