When carbon atom undergoes sp hybridization there will be two unchanged p orbitals (Px and Py considering z-axis as molecular axis) and two sp orbitals(hybridized orbitals).

Mechanism of sp hybridization: The ground state carbon atom has 2 es in the 2s orbital and 2 es in the 2p orbital. On excitation the one of the 2s electron is transferred to an empty 2p orbital( say 2pz).Then the half filled 2s orbital and 2pz orbital undergo hybridization yo form to two equivalent sp orbitals(on the molecular axis).

The will be a maximum of 3 bonds that 2 carbon atoms can make: It can be explained by the sp hybridization. When two sp hybridized carbon atoms combine through the z-axis as molecular axis then the unchanged p orbitals undergo lateral overlap forming 2 pi orbitals and one sp orbitals of each carbon atom overlap horizontally forming a sigma orbital. But the other sp orbital of carbon atom cannot overlap since the sp orbitals lie in the same molecular axis. This prevents the formation of the fourth bond.

What have two or more different kinds of atoms linked together?

A molecule is formed when two or more different kinds of atoms are linked together by chemical bonds. These bonds can be covalent, ionic, or metallic, depending on the nature of the atoms involved and their arrangement.

Why cant carbon form more than a total of 4 bonds?

Because forming more than four bonds would give the atom more than 8 valence electrons

Why cant a atom be separated?

Atoms cannot be easily separated because they are held together by strong forces called atomic bonds. These bonds involve the sharing or exchange of electrons between atoms, making it difficult to break them apart without a significant amount of energy. Additionally, atoms typically exist in combinations with other atoms to form molecules, further preventing their separation.

All organic molecules contain carbon atoms that ultimatly can be traced back in the food chain to?

haha is this alex? i cant get this one either

Why cant an organic compound have the formula C2H7?

An organic compound cannot have the formula C2H7 because carbon (C) forms four bonds and hydrogen (H) forms one bond, so the maximum number of hydrogens that can be attached to two carbon atoms is 6 (C2H6). Having 7 hydrogens would result in carbon having a pentavalent configuration, which is energetically unfavorable and violates the octet rule.

How is energy involved in breaking bonds molecule?

energy cant be made nor created it would depend on what type of energy

Is CH3OH ionic bonding?

No CH3OH is a covalent compound becauseAn Ionic bond is formed between metals and nonmetalAs there are no metals in this compound so it cant be an ionic bond

What kinds of elements are joined by covalent bonding?

Nonmetals typically form covalent bonds when they share electrons to achieve a full outer electron shell. This type of bonding is commonly observed in molecules like H2O (water) and CO2 (carbon dioxide), where atoms share electrons to achieve stability.

What is the difference in a property and in a change?

the difference in a chemical property and a chemical change is that the chemical property is an elements ability to change or do something, a chemical change is when an object does change and you cant get it back. the difference between chemical property and chemical change is that chemical property is any of a materials properties that becomes evident during a chemical reaction while chemical change is when an object change and its bonds are broken and new bonds are formed between different atoms.

Is NACL ionic or covalent bonds why cant it be covalent bond?

NaCl is formed by ionic bonds because sodium (Na) donates an electron to chlorine (Cl), resulting in the formation of Na+ and Cl- ions that are attracted to each other by electrostatic forces. Covalent bonds involve the sharing of electrons between atoms, which does not occur in the formation of NaCl.

How do you draw resonance structure for CO3?

benzoic acid is the beznene ring and then an acid group on the end. Reasonance is the make up of all the possiblities of where the electrons can be at any time. So to make the overall picture (resonance) the benzene ring has a circle inside and the acid has an overall charge spread across the two oxygen atoms. So the "minus" sign is placed equally between the two oxygen atoms and H+ is put next to the sign. The bonds between the carbon oxygen for both are shown; O-C-O Also put a dashed line between the atoms too to represent a partial bond. I cant draw this.

What type of bonds cant be sold on the secondary market?

Bonds are traded between investors in the secondary market. However, unlike stocks, most bonds are not traded in the secondary market via exchanges. In the secondary market transactions, the bond does not have to be traded for its original issue price.
