Ease of measurement is the simple answer. The mass of a gas will almost always be small compared to the mass of the vessel used to mass it in, so it's not so easy to find the mass of a gas. You can though---toss an empty ball on a good balance and then blow it up. You definitely get a change in mass. Of course if you know the volume, pressure, and identity of a gas, calculating its mass is fairly easy using the ideal gas law.

That is because a gram is a unit of mass. A substance like CO2 can either be measured either in units of mass (grams, kilograms, milligrams), or of volume (liters, cubic meters, etc.), depending on the context. A chemist may also just indicate the number of moles - this gives an idea of how many molecules there are in a sample.

Gas isn't really a... Weight.

UNLESS you are to put it in a container

And it has a lot of gas, it's possible for gas to be measure for volume.

Reason is gas is a bit heavier than air.. I think lol!! Hope this help!

the kilogram (Kg) is a unit of mass, while the the liter (l) is a unit of volume. We typically measure gasses by volume. Then we can compute their mass in Kg if we know their density at a given temperature using the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.

It is convenient to take a liter as volume und measure the mass of the gas.

Because the same amount of gas will always weigh the same while the volume will vary with pressure.

Usually, if it's a thick liquid it'll be hard to measure in say, a measuring cup. so they measure by weight.
