we use antimonial lead in chromium plating because if we use chromium as anode in the process, the number of anions will become more than that of cations.i,e cr++ in solution,cr+++ in anode,H+ in aquous solution of chromium sulphate and only two cations(so4-- and OH-) will be there to neutralize it.so one anion will exceeed in number and chromim could not be oxidized completely for plating.. tht is why antimonial lead is used as anode which is an inert anode an does not oxidizes but only passes electricity.

What is an antimonial powder?

Antimonial powder is a preparation made from antimony, sulfur, and potassium nitrate. It was historically used in medicine as an emetic (to induce vomiting) and in the treatment of various ailments, such as parasitic infections. However, its use has significantly declined due to its toxic properties.

The terms "chrome plating" or "chrome plated" can be refering to:a thin electroplating layer of chromium metal on an objecta term used to suggest that something or someone appears better on the surface than it actually is

How is chromium made?

Chromium is typically obtained through the mining and extraction of chromite ore. The ore is processed to extract chromium by either using the traditional method of roasting and leaching, or modern techniques such as aluminothermic reaction or electrolysis. The extracted chromium is then further processed and refined to the desired form for use in various industries.

What electroplating method did GE invent?

GE Research and Development devised a method for nickel-plating plastics to shield computer housings. This process did not use chromium, unlike Crown City Plating's process, and was applied with a water-based solution.

What are some current uses for chromium?

Chromium is used for chrome plating object. This makes them shiny and resistant to corrosion. It is a necessary component in stainless steel, and it is also used in tanning leather. Magnetic tape uses an oxide of chromium, which is better than iron in this application. Some chromium compounds are dietary supplements, some are gasoline additives and some are used in making green pigments for use in paints, ceramics, varnishes and inks.

How do you prevent pitting porosity in hard chrome plating?

To prevent pitting porosity in hard chrome plating, it is important to properly clean and prepare the surface before plating to remove any contaminants. Ensure that the plating solution is free of impurities and properly maintained. Use appropriate plating parameters such as current density, temperature, and duration to achieve a smooth and uniform deposit. Regularly inspect and maintain plating equipment to prevent issues that may lead to pitting porosity.

What is copper nickel plating?

For outdoors use (autos, decorative work), direct chromium plating over steel may suffer imperfections which will lead to failure. A better technique is to copper plate the item first, then a coat of nickel, then chrome. The copper binds best to the steel substrate, the nickel gives a good impervious coating, then the chrome for a high mirror finish.

What is the uses of chromite?

Chromite is the only ore of chromium, a metal used to induce hardness, toughness and chemical resistance in steel. The alloy produced is known as "stainless steel". When alloyed with iron and nickel it produces a alloy known as "nichrome"

Is chromium in money?

Chromium is a metal. We use it in making coins.

Should you pass air in hard chrome plating solution for uniformity plating?

Air have to be used in chrome plating to prevent pitting & to have uniform plating. One must not use air compressor air. Use only the blower to pass the air.
