since acetyl ferrocene is attached to an acetyl group, the upper ring is asymmetrical. unlike ferrocene, whose rings are symmetrical (no attached groups) the melting point is higher due to symmetry.

∙ 9y agoFerrocene has a double ring structure, while acetylferrocene has an acetyl group branching off of one ring. This break in the structure makes it easier to break down acetylferrocene, giving it a lower melting point.
